"Rocky Outcrop"

The bubbling characteristic of various coloured lichen growing on rock faces have a depth which encourages one to look closer and see beyond the obvious for hidden layers.

"Winged Meditation"

Reminiscent of the rock art carved by native people into the cliffs of the Alberta Badlands, this piece suggests fossilized floral details floating over a background of eroded sandstone during an evening sunset.

"The Past Revealed"

Alberta is a province that appears pristine and uncomplicated when one first begins to explore; the landscape is wide open, the cities are relatively new, and the surface does not betray its true depth. However, a little digging will reveal a wealth of history and experiences.

"Of the Earth"
 
One of the wonders of the Alberta Badlands, easily discovered by any careful observer, is the incredible range of colours in what initially seems a homogeneous landscape. This scarf / wall hanging, dyed with minerals of the earth, highlights these muted earth-tone shades of grey, brown and black.

"The Weight of the Ancients"

Inspired by the oxidation of mineral deposits layered in the ancient sediments of the Alberta Badlands, this piece reveals the jewels created by weight and unveiled by erosion.

"Clastic Karma"

The elemental sandstone of the Alberta Badlands is a clastic rock, consolidated from broken pieces of other rocks, bonded together by the weight of the layered earth, etched by wind and water. This piece exposes the textures created by these random actions.

"Talisman Pouches"

Since late prehistoric times native peoples have used talismans to bring luck and avert evil in a harsh and often bewildering world. These pouches incorporate the colours and elements of the Alberta Badlands to capture the magic and spiritual power of this unique place.
Contain semi-precious gems and crystals.

Pouches are  3" tall x  1.5" wide, usually on adjustable cord for length ~15"

"Circle of the Sun"

Even among the barren rocks, nature finds a way to blossom. The warming Alberta Badland's sun brings to life a profusion of green and yellow for our contemplation.

"Sedimentary Swirls"

Water traces lines in the mud; the wind and the sun set them in stone. One of the wonders of the Alberta Badlands is this ability to see the ephemeral motion of wind and water permanently etched in stone.

The Riparian habitat alongside the Red Deer River is home to cottonwood and willow trees along with saskatoon, rose and buffalo-berry bushes which together inspire this study of colour of one out of the three major Park habitats.
